Dragon Fruit

I never heard of this fruit until I found one in our pantry at work. It looks like a flower bud and i was really curious because it has a beautiful shade. When I asked my office colleague what kind of flower is it, she told me that the boss brought them from one of the local University. Few days after I was called in for a meeting and finally I was able to get more information about this fruit.

The fruit is from the cactus family and and also known as Rose Cactus. Out of curiosity, I took a bite on the slice that my colleague handed me. It does not taste anything. It's like eating a mouthful of grainy tasteless papaya without the smell.

According to those who tried cultivating this fruit, the ones found in other Asian countries taste sweeter than those planted locally. When I asked what are the uses of this fruit they showed me some goods where it was used as a sugar substitute, flavoring for some drinks and pastries and best eaten when chilled.

(IUnfortunately I was not able to take any photos)

I don't find any liking with this fruit though but there is this big possibility that it can offer loads of nutritional benefits for the body.

Bottled Balut: A Philippine Exotic Food

...is now in a bottle. With the initiative of the balut producer from Pateros, the exotic food that people of the Philippines eat heartily though some have to close their eyes when eating, can now be bought in bottles. The good thing about this is that you will surely enjoy a gourmet balut 24/7 with the assurance that it undergo quality assurance and have a shelf life of two years.

It comes in three flavors: in brine, afritada and caldereta.

The innovation on this Filipino food was made possible by the support of the Philippine government through the Department of Science and Technology.

Long Life

This is not a food blog but I have to admit that when weekend comes the busiest part of our home is the kitchen. I am not a cook but I am a hearty eater and I love to discover new foods.

During my University days, when I have to stay at the dorm when I am broke I used to chow on any ramen I can find in my food stock. But my love affair with ramen did not start there. As early as grade school. my grandma would cook ramen when I came home from school. One of my fond memories with grandma is walking home from school with her and stopping by that ramen house located around the local grocers vicinity.

Unfortunately, I did not learn how to cook ramen at home. Well, except if you count these off the rack ramen noodles that you buy from the grocery store. I was browsing earlier for recipes when I came upon this weird ramen.. I am not sure though if my adventurous taste bud is willing to try it:

I am not sure if i want my ice cream dunked in my bowl of ramen. :)

Japanese Bento Box

I have been searching the web on how to make bento. Today is my lucky day because finally I found a blog that I am looking for: bento and recipe. Well, Min min did not exactly wrote the recipe there but at least she identified the content of the bento box and sometimes she gives a brief how-to on her post.

Want more? Visit her site and have fun.

Food Trip

This is out of topic, but i will post it as well:

With nothing to do during the weekend, we fill our tummy with loads of different dishes that are not fat and calorie free.

Have a great week everyone. :D

Dream House

I've always wanted a small spaced house. I don't have anything against big houses but I feel more comfortable with small houses better than big ones. I told my better half about my plans and he agrees that if we are going to have a small family, a small house with backyard, garden and enough space for the kids and dogs to run around is the best deal.

I found these photos in the web and i think I would love to have them on my dream house:

Pastel Colors

I found the color combination above in one of my Internet surfing.

It reminds me of the good times I had with my best friends back in the University after our gym class. I can still remember the aroma wafting from that Dunkin Donut store in the corner of the street were we used to hang out during our fresh man years. I wonder if the place still exists.

Have a bite.
